It seemed somehow that politicians were very important. And yet, anything seemed important about them except their politics.

Lapsing back into irrelevance

The site has fallen off Google again. Apparently I am no longer relevant.

Never mind that there is precisely one site listed that contains the text of my site title, and that's because it links to me.

However, you can see here that Google thinks there are no links to this site.

I'm a big fan of Google as a user, but as a site operator its workings are beginning to mystify me.

On a related note, for the other Antville users out there, you might want to take note that Google and other search services, as well as sites like Blogdex, are probably unable to parse the Antville &lt% link %&gt tag correctly to identify your links to other sites.

As a result, I've taken to using standard &lta href=...&gt syntax for all links, except those rare cases where I thoroughly dislike the linked site and don't want to promote it as a relevant search option.

I'd recommend doing likewise if you want your links to friends, news articles, etcetera to factor into services like Daypop, Blogdex, and Google.

Allergic to cats?

...a lot of my friends are.

For them, and you, now there's NeCoRo, a feline answer to the Sony Aibo robot-dog phenomenon by competitor Omron. NeCoRo site in Japanese, details in English here and here.

It doesn't walk like Aibo, or the prototype biped Honda Asimo seen in their recent commercial, but then how many cat-owners have a pet that actually follows them around?

What it does do is acknowledge your existence in a stationary fashion, and paw at interesting objects you dangle in front of it. It also has fur.

In other words, just like a real cat, but without the litter box or the allergies.

(Note: in fairness to my real cat, Mira, I must note that love, or any reasonable facsimile thereof, is not included. In fairness to the robot, however, I doubt that NeCoRo sheds copious amounts of hair for 3 to 4 months out of the year.)

Food - it's all about finesse.

It's all about finesse...

Meg Hourihan tells the tale of her long-awaited visit to The French Laundry.

I can count on one hand the number of truly transforming culinary outings I have had in my life, so it's always a delight to experience more by living vicariously through others.

One of these days, I'll be sure to document one or two of my own for you all.
